You’ve all heard it, either on the apple commercial or on the radio. You may have even found yourself singing the chorus when you’re home alone. It’s that catchy. Grouplove, an indie band from LA, released their album Never Trust a Happy Song in September, and “Tongue Tied” became a number one hit on the Billboard Alternative Songs Chart. It has that fun, summertime feel with a strong electro-pop sound. Four of the five members of Grouplove are vocalists along with playing their instruments, so the song has a choral feel that just makes you want to join in. The lyrics speak of a plainly put teenage love without cutesy metaphors- “Normally we’re making out, oh yeah.” They are pretty simple and are great for having fun with the gang, but they have an emotional depth to be desired. It’s a song to sing to in the car, not one to be contemplated. This song, for better or worse, got Grouplove on the radio and on the map.
