Yann Tiersen – “Another Shore”

Yann Tiersen - Skyline

French musician Yann Tiersons’  music was introduced to a vast majority of the world via the 2001 film, Amelie. His seventh studio album, Skyline was released on April 17th through Anti Records.

Track one is “Another Shore”. The dynamics within this opening track range from quiet to loud and the overall emotional journey is immensely cathartic.  Tiersons’ use of a multitude of instruments make this introduction quite a shocker.

Is he setting the listener up for failure by providing them with such an intense five minutes?

Without giving too much away ,my answer to that question is “no”. Tierson follows track one with eight more beautiful and delicate songs that will appease the weary and lift the spirits. Any fan of Brian Eno’s Apollo: Atmospheres And Soundtracks or Maps’ We Can Create will enjoy Skyline just the same, if not more. It pairs nicely with both aforementioned albums, yet offers a fresh, warm feeling of home.
