Veronica Fallss/t

This record combines so many of my favorite things in music: a girl with a sing-song melody, jangle guitars, creepy lyrical themes, and back-n-forth harmonies. I feel as if I’ve lived with this album all year, but it only came out in the fall. I know I’ll be listening to it for many years to come.

Lana Del Rey – “Video Games” / “Blue Jeans” single

Only a single since her album’s not out yet, but absolutely two of my favorite songs of the year. Classic lyrics, a voice straight from 1958, and arrangements full of such foreboding, I feel that when the songs end, something really horrific is going to happen. But it doesn’t, so I just play them again.

M83Hurry Up, We’re Dreaming

One my favorite groups anyway, so I was thrilled that their new record sounded like 1980’s dance music for someone who just landed on the moon. Also my favorite album artwork of the year.
