Thurston Moore – Demolished Thoughts
Context can be everything with an album, and this one came to me as my wife and I pulled out of town on the 3 1/2 hour drive up the California coast to her hometown of Mendocino. This is perfect driving music; relaxed and moody, through the hills and redwoods, along the river, and then the explosion of views as we hit the dramatic coastline. Symbiosis defined.
Little Scream – The Golden Record
We opened her San Francisco show a few weeks back and traded albums afterwards. An album of this completion should really just be inspiring, but The Golden Record is so good I’ll admit to being a little jealous as well. A defined voice of considerable talent, urgent yet assured, with some damn fine production and brilliant track sequence.
St. Vincent – Strange Mercy
Ok, I’ll admit I’ve only listened to it a couple of times now, but I can’t wait for the next pass, which is a very good sign. I could get very technical with my appreciation for this record, but let’s just say that there is no part, chorus, verse, transition, tone, or performance that the obvious wasn’t fought against. Rad.
