Scott Ryan – “Western Anxiety” Music Video

Songwriter/guitarist Scott Ryan has been steadily gaining momentum since his entrancing Tree Man EP dropped back in the summer of 2009.  That album’s alternating takes on catharsis and self-examination were immediately affecting, a fittingly tenebrous offering from a man who spent most of his upbringing in the dank and opaque environs of the Pacific Northwest.  Since the late 90’s though, Ryan has called Los Angeles his home; it was sort of inevitable that the region’s chimerical weather and opulent lifestyle habits would eventually creep into his music.

Indeed, a more lighthearted aesthetic is what we get with “Western Anxiety,” the first single from Ryan’s upcoming – and as of this moment, untitled – long player.  Propelled by soaring falsetto melodies, funky guitar punctuations, and a wonderfully melodic bass line, the track is three and a half minutes of ebullient California pop/rock.  You can check out the appropriately daffy music video for the song (replete with ninjas, pigs, and cowboys) below:
