Elaine Lachica - I Think I Can See the Ocean

In the wide angle musical lens of her new album, I Think I Can See the Ocean, Elaine Lachica’s vocal gift makes a transcendent display.

Taking on the role of siren, balladeer, and lounge singer, Lachica makes herself better than the rock, jazz, and avant garde, dream pop compositions she is paired with. Early in the album, her angelic vocal lifts the delicately crafted, ephemeral instrumentation of “Bewilder”. Immediately following, “Jinx the Line” finds Lachica fronting a post-rock band, leading the musical sprawl of echoing guitars.

The album’s most memorable moment comes with “Wild Wielding”. Here, Lachica’s wanted voice joins a fitful, smart violin. All fourteen tracks on I Think I Can See the Ocean sound crisp, and Lachica’s voice has a warm breath behind it.

Talented and a little different. You should hear it for yourself.
