When this ¬†7″ found its way on to my turntable I was burnt out on listening to too many scrappy punk records. When I saw that Everyone Everywhere is a Philly band, I had to make it my next selection for the afternoon. I didn’t want to hear any more punk, and this hometown band definitely delivered on that front. The group plays what I would consider late 90’s emo. Both the A & B sides deliver up plenty of jangly pop-rock, but I for one was never a huge fan of this style of music.

Tracks like “Thermal Dynamics” are absolutely super catchy tunes, but the warm tones on this 4-song EP make me think of the barely old enough to drink bar crowd. Perhaps I just missed the emo boat – even 10 years ago this wouldn’t have thrilled me. The singer’s voice is too sweet sounding, the guitar and drums just a bit too slick. Without a doubt, these guys are adept musicians and I can imagine tons of people really loving this. It’s not like this is Hot Topic punk, but I can easily picture this 7″ being hot with the kids hanging out in front of the local convenience store.

It’s safe to say that A Lot of Weird People Standing Around will have very specific appeal, just as it’s safe to say this isn’t my thing. If emo, or even punky pop-rock, ¬†makes you happy then by all means nab a copy of this limited edition (100 blue, 100 clear) record. Just don’t try and share your download code with me.
