The National Rifle – The National Rifle EP

The National Rifle
The National Rifle EP

I’m going to keep this one rather short, as my thoughts are pretty minimal on the subject. The National Rifle hails from Philadelphia, a city featuring many other bands that interest me more.

I listened to the trio’s five song EP of upbeat punk-rock. First off, the recording sounds like a basement mix. I honestly hope they didn’t pay an extravagant price for having it done. It’s a shame too, because it would have made a slightly better impression on me recorded somewhere else.

“OK Hole” isn’t that bad, mainly thanks to the singer/guitarist’s catchy riff combinations. The line “everybody lets you down” sticks out from the opener, but when gang vocals begin spelling “L-E-T D-O-W-N” the sheer corniness had me changing my mind.

The National Rifle has six years under their belt, but they have little to distinguish themselves apart from a sloppy college band.
