Stellarscope – Spanish Air
Stellarscope
Spanish Air
This is actually a cover of the old Slowdive number that turned up on a tribute album for the old English shoegazing band. Slowdive has a tribute album? Well I never.
So it’s Slowdive that will give you the best idea at what this band sounds like – the distant vocals, ethereal guitars, and muffled drums. It’s funny that such a quirky sound is reproduced here.
Stellarscope doesn’t really try to diverge or extend on the sound of Slowdive. This band may not have had the studio wizardry access that Slowdive had, and it shows up in the sound of the band. Which makes you wonder why they bother doing it in the first place. If the song sounds so similar to the original, maybe the listener can go and just listen to the original. Do a cover sure, but how about adding some of your own style into the production as well.
The vocals are very similar to Slowdive’s Neil and Rachel. It’s not a bad imitation, but not all that inspiring as well. The sound is not quite as deep and rich as the original. It will just make you want to look out for the original.
